Jamu (Post-Natal Massage & Wrap)

Jamu Massage & Wrap is a traditional post-natal therapy practiced by Malay women since centuries. "Jamu" means "tonic" in Malay. Post-natal Jamu massage consists of the application of a healing herb mixture and massage of the body for a series of 3 to 7 days. The mixture of herbs includes ginger, camphor, tamarind and other herbs that are conducive to healing and recovering from childbirth.

Jamu massage is said to help with moving the womb back into its original position and the herbs are said to support lactation. Women who give birth vaginally may start the treatment within a week of delivery. Because women who gave birth via C-section (cesarean) have a wound that needs to heal, they should consult their OBGYN before commencing Jamu massage (but as a general guideline 6 weeks is usually fine). Jamu may aid in preventing hypersensitivity from developing around the tissue surrounding the Cesarean scar, by softening the scar tissue and gently stimulating the nerve tissue.
