Pre-natal Massage is a relaxing massage therapy technique adapted for the changing needs of a pregnant woman's body. Pregnancy is a wonderful and joyful experience. However, it also puts a lot of stress on the body. Massage may bring relief from some common discomforts such as tender joints which are brought about by the increased weight and her shifting centre of gravity. Water retention is also another common symptom that can be alleviated with massage. Pregnant women should be sure to find an experienced pre-natal massage therapist as there are certain pressure points which should be avoided as these may induce labour. Likewise a pregnant woman should not lie on her back from the second trimester onwards, so she should be massaged lying on her side.
