Mama Mia: Healing Hugs and Why Brocolli is the Mother of Superfoods |

Mama Mia May
The other day, a friend reminded me that Mother's Day is coming up. Usually I don't need reminding, but this year I am suffering a serious bout of "baby brain".
You see, I became a mom myself for the first time a few months ago. And while I think it's a ridiculous generalisation that "it changes everything", what has changed most profoundly for me is my appreciation of my own mother.
Her overprotective manner, which I perceived as suffocating, now seems like perfectly reasonable behaviour when you love someone as much as I love my daughter (who by the way will ALWAYS be my baby girl even when she's 55!). And yet ... I always promised myself that I wouldn't make the same "mistakes" my mother made raising me.

Today I realise that in many ways my mother taught me by example, what it means to be a good mother. She may not be perfect, but her love for me has always been perfectly unconditional.
This year the 2nd Sunday of May will be more than just a "Hallmark holiday" for me. My hope is that regardless of our relationships with our mothers, we take this date as an opportunity to connect with and celebrate what the love of a Mother means to each of us.

Healing Hugs - Guru Amma's Message of Love
In real life, not all mothers are necessarily sufficiently detached from their own egos to be able to offer selfless, unconditional love to their child. Sometimes, we receive this "motherly love" from someone else (and not always necessarily a woman). Each day thousands of pilgrims flock to Guru Amma (who recently visited Singapore) to experience her healing, motherly embrace.
|
| Guru Amma, also known as "India's Hugging Saint", is well known for her healing, loving embrace which she has offered to over 25 million people all over the world. Amma's message is that the purpose of one's life is ... |

Why Broccoli is the Mother of all Superfoods
Broccoli, whilst not necessarily the most popular of veggies amongst kids, is one of the most nutritious and widely available superfoods around. Here are 3 reasons why a few florets should make a regular appearance on your dinner plate:
1. Cancer fighting: Broccoli is full of the cancer fighting component sulforaphane which a study by the Harvard Cancer Centre was found to inhibit the growth of breast cancer stem cells by up to 80%
|
2. Higher Immunity: Broccoli is an amazing source of vitamin C, which you need to fight off infections and maintain healthy skin. One handful (steamed not boiled or fried to death!) contains twice your daily requirement of vitamin C!
3. Prevent Osteoporosis and Anemia: One serving of this miracle vegetable contains enough vitamin K to cover your daily requirement of this vital nutrient which you need to keep your bones healthy and your blood clotting properly.
And if you really can't be bothered to eat your broccoli... well here's another creative idea for you! |
