| My Journey Healing from Eczema with Homeopathy |
|
Only when I really hit a wall and my eczema got so painful I had to go to A&E to have my rings removed, did I finally visit a dermatologist. As I expected, all he could do for me was to prescribe cortisone cream (which I refused to accept point blank) and antibiotics, which I reluctantly accepted. This “one size fits all” approach was exactly why I hadn’t bothered to see a doctor in the first place. Disappointed with this lack of understanding by Western medicine as to what actually causes eczema and addressing the root cause, I ventured one last attempt at helping my body to heal itself naturally. Luckily, it just so happened that the universe had me cross paths with a homeopath a few weeks earlier who comes highly recommended especially for eczema and skin conditions. So, with my eczema at an extremely painful and frankly terrifying stage (and my unopened course of antibiotics in my bag in case of emergency!) I made my way to see Anu Chalke. Anu struck me as a very warm-hearted, caring and most importantly non-judgmental homeopath. She made me feel comfortable and asked me questions to better understand my condition not only from a medical point of view but also to get a sense of my emotional state. Anu determined that I needed an “acute” remedy of Belladonna first to deal with the infection and that I should come back within a week for my “constitutional” remedy to deal with the emotional issues underlying the condition. Homeopathy works on the basis of using highly diluted doses of plants, herbs and other substances to address imbalances in the body’s immune system. Anu asked me to keep in touch with her via sms to update her on my condition over the next 72 hours so we can keep an eye on whether it is getting better or worse in which case I should take the antibiotics. This reassured me because I felt that Anu was working alongside my dermatologist’s advice rather than trying to discredit it. Astonishingly, the same night that I saw Anu my eczema had calmed down significantly and within three days new healthy skin had started to visibly replace the “angry” red skin. My body was no longer fighting against a non-existent threat. I went back a week later for my constitutional remedy and now my eczema only looks like dry skin, which I am consistently moisturizing. I still have the unopened pack of antibiotics somewhere but I am so glad I didn’t have to resort to it, because that would have just created another load of problems (yeast infections, bloating, etc) that I am so glad I was able to avoid. Most importantly, my eczema is really healing up. And I do not have to concern myself with the long-term side effects of using steroid creams on an ongoing basis or go back for repeat courses of antibiotics.
