Why is Heart Meditation Important?

I had the most amazing heart meditation with Yantara Jiro on Friday, 18th March, 2012. The group was small, and we were in the most peaceful, cozy room, hosted by Deepa, the facilitator of the group. Jiro took us through a guided meditation where we went deep into our hearts, explored our past, present and future, and learned to listen to what our heart truly wants.

Why is Heart Meditation Important?

Even though I am new to this meet-up group, I could’nt pass the opportunity to do a group heart meditation. I believe that being in your heart is far better than being in your head, especially if you are in the path to find your true self. When faced with conflict, your head can keep coming up with various responses to the situation, even logical ones, till you get completely conused.  It took me a lot of practice, but whenever faced with a challenging situation or a person, I try to respond from my heart, and always get a single, genuine answer.

The purpose of heart meditation is to open up the heart center, so that one can release sadness and fear, and fill it with love and compassion.

What is the Heart Chakra or the Heart Center?

(Please refer to the article on Chakra Basics on the blog for detailed information on Chakras)

The Heart Chakra (Anahata) is the fourth chakra that is located in the heart, upper chest and upper back.  The chakra is often associated with the colors green or pink. It is the love center of our energy system and is often the focus in bringing about healing in a person. It is through our heart chakra that we can also connect to harmony and peace.

To get you started, I am attaching a heart meditation by Drunvalo Melchizedek. Please note that the PART 2 of this meditation is not available anymore on You Tube. However, the first part itself is quite powerful so I have added it here. I am trying to get hold of another guided meditation, which I will post as soon as I have with me.

Here’s wishing that you get all that your heart desires.
