Healing Emotions with Bach Flowers

Bach Flower RemediesIt is normal for us to feel emotional at times. How do you cope with feeling gloomy, anxious, resentful or filled with despair? Do you look for help or let it be, thinking that everything will be alright after some time?

Dr. Bach, himself a natural healer and a spiritual person, recognised that each and every one of us is capable of healing him or herself. Dr Bach’s lifework focused on harnessing the subtle energetic qualities of 38 flowers and plants each with its unique effect on our constitution.

His belief is grounded in the philosophy that choosing the right remedies represents a journey of self-discovery. When we identify which particular remedy has brought about which result for us, we begin to recognize what it is that we need to restore our balance.

Before we go into what Bach Flower remedies are about, let me share a case study:

Gwyneth (not her real name), aged 63, was over-eager in everything, and resentful of the limitations of her planned activities due to her illness. *VERVAIN was given for her over-eagerness and *WILLOW for her resentment. After taking Bach Flower Remedies for some time, she found her life had become quieter and more pleasant. (* Names of the remedies)

So what are Bach Flower Remedies and how do they work?

Bach flower Remedies is a well-respected system of healing that has been used in 60 over countries since it was established in 1936. Bach Flower Remedies are natural, simple to use and they are not habit forming. Everyone can use the remedies and the remedies are selected based on emotions and not on physical complaints.

The Bach Flower Remedies work effectively on:

  • Acute emergency situations
  • Passing emotional moods
  • Deep- rooted emotions
  • Personality traits

Bach Flower Remedies were discovered by Dr. Edward Bach (pronounced as 'Batch') who lived in England from 1886 to 1936. He was a highly qualified Harley Street physician, bacteriologist and pathologist. Dr. Bach strongly believed in treating the person, not the disease and diseases are the results of conflict between body, mind and spirit- the true cause of physical and mental disharmony. Therefore, treatment of the underlying causes was vital. The system took him seven years to complete, during which time he suffered a variety of mental states to help him in understanding of the healing properties of each plant.

There are 38 basic remedies in the system. 37 of them are made from single flower plant but one, *ROCK WATER, which is derived from prepared spring water. Each remedy treats a specific negative emotional such as worry, fear, anxiety or anger, just to name a few. It works by encouraging the corresponding positive quality that lies dormant in us, without suppressing negative state, for example intolerance into understanding towards others or despair into positive faith and hope.

Each remedy is for certain emotional state and they are selected in accordance with the person's mood and personality. Hence, instead of looking at the symptoms, we look at the emotional outlook of the person.  The remedies gently restore the balance between mind and body by casting out those emotions such as stress, hopelessness, hatred and uncertainty which interfere with the equilibrium of the being as a whole. Thus, by dispelling negativity, the action of the remedies allows peace, happiness and clarity to return to the sufferer, so that the body is free to heal itself.

Practical Application

Bach flower remedies are natural and can be taken by anyone; including babies, children, animals and even plants! Bach Flower Remedies do not interfere with other treatments and medication as they are completely safe and harmless.

Taking the remedies

Taking the remedies is simple. For more deep-rooted problems, you can mix a treatment bottle (not more than seven remedies in a bottle). A 30ml treatment bottle will last up to three weeks. Take four drops from the treatment bottle (onto the tongue or in water) at least four times daily. This is the minimum dosage, but if necessary, such as when the mood is acute, the frequency can be increased.

For passing moods and problems, simply put two drops of each selected remedy in a glass of water. Sip as often as required until the mood has passed.

The remedy may work immediately or may require many months of continual use for deep-rooted emotions.

Be your own healer

“These remedies bring us nearer to our souls and by that very act bring us peace and relieve our sufferings”.Dr Edward Bach
